More than 60,000 tickets will be distributed for free and special brochures will be attached to the main national newspapers at least 1 month prior to the start of the tournament. The local organizers have also contacted the institutional representatives of some participating countries – namely their respective embassies and consulates based in Turkey – to attract some more spectators.
Both in Istanbul and in Izmir, a couple of days right before the start of the competition, SMS will be sent out and another special message will be conveyed to the “ordinary” telephone lines, always in order to inform the local inhabitants that the Championships are ready to go. Taking into consideration the popularity of such tools in Turkey, the local organizers will also carry out some quizzes – via the main radio stations – with people being invited to answer to some easy questions related to volleyball and also the European Championships, thus having the chance to get some free entrance tickets or some gadgets/souvenirs (such as t-shirts, etc).
Finally, the Organizing Committee is preparing some special packages to be conveyed to volleyball fans through the Turkish travel agencies based all over Europe. There will be the chance to combine some holidays in Istanbul and/or Izmir with the attendance to the matches, which is quite an appealing offer for a tourist-oriented country such as Turkey.
CEV Vice President and Control Committee President, Mrs. Riet Ooms, comments: “The Turkish Federation has been developing a series of great ideas to attract more and more people to the Championships. This is good for the general promotion of volleyball and I feel like future organizers of the Championships might have to learn something from what our partners in Turkey are going to do in the coming months”.
We’ll keep you updated as soon as more information are coming from Turkey, so stay tuned and be ready also for the launch of the official website the Turkish Federation has been preparing for the Championships!
