O Curt Toppel στον ΓΣ Λαμία

Ο 29χρονος Αμερικανός Curt Toppel θα αγωνίζεται στον Γυμναστικό Σύλλογο Λαμίας την ερχόμενη αγωνιστική χρονιά 2009-10. O Curt Toppel γεννήθηκε στις 19 Σεπτεμβρίου 1980, έχει ύψος 205cm και αγωνίζεται στη θέση του διαγώνιου. Έχει πολλές διακρίσεις με την εθνική ομάδα των Η.Π.Α. από το 2001 έως το 2006 (2006 USA National Team - Argentina tour (Argentina) - Gold medal. 2006 USA National Team - America’s Cup (Brazil) - Gold medal. 2005 USA National Team - Northwest America tour (Netherlands) - Gold medal. 2004 USA National Team - Japan tournament (Japan). 2003 USA National Team.2002 USA National Team - Kentucky tournament (Canada, Australia) - Gold medal. 2001 USA World University Team (Beijing, China) - Gold medal. France Starts Strong with Sweep of Greece

France captured a 25-18, 25-20, 26-24 victory over Greece on Friday afternoon during the opening day of the 2009 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship (U-21) being held July 31-Aug. 9 at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune, India.

France’s Youssef Krou led all scorers with 17 points, 16 of which came off spikes. Guillaume Quesque added 14 kills in the victory and Fredaric Barais contributed nine points.

Greece captain Mitar Tzouritz collected a team-high 16 points and Pangiotis Pelekousas recorded nine points.

Although Greece out-blocked France 7-3, it was the victor’s offense of 48 spikes that proved to be part of the difference. France also netted a 4-1 ace advantage in the match.

The match was part of the three-day, four-team round-robin first round Pool C also involving Cuba and Argentina. France continues play against Argentina on Saturday at 12:00 local time on the middle day of the opening round, while Greece faces Cuba at 16:00 local time. The overall tournament consists of 16 teams with four pools of four teams in the first round.

The top two teams from each first-round pool advances to second round 1-8 classification matches to be held Aug. 4-6. The bottom two teams in each first-round pool falls to the second round 9-16 classification matches.

France scored a relatively easy 25-18 victory in the opening set as Quesque and Krou produced most of the damage with four points apiece. France had eight different players score in the set to get involved early the tournament.

Greece played it closer in the second set, but France still prevailed 25-20 on the strength of five points each from Barais and Quesque. Tzourits tried to keep Greece close with six points in the period.

Greece looked to extend the match to a fourth set by jumping to a 16-12 lead at the second technical timeout of the third set. However, France inched back into the set at 22-20 and tied the period at 24-all. Without losing a beat, France won the set with the final two points at 26-24.

Olympic Semi-Final Rematch Highlights Thursday’s Men's Play at A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam

With men’s and women’s teams from the host country dominating the centre court action at the US$600,000 A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam Presented by Volksbank here Thursday, the thousands of fans watching the side court action on the Metnitzstrand at Lake Wörthersee were treated to one of the best rivalries in the sport featuring Brazilian world champions and Olympic medal winners.

Being grouped together in Pool E, the fifth-seeded Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos faced a challenge in their first match Thursday by Brazilian rivals and 12th-seeded Marcio Araujo and Fabio Magalhaes as the Beach Volleyball meeting was the 19th FIVB confrontation between the two teams that faced each other in the semi-finals at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Like the Beijing result, Marcio Araujo and Fabio prevailed Thursday with a 21-15, 14-21 and 15-13 win in 59 minutes for their eighth FIVB victory over Emanuel and Ricardo since 2005. Earlier this season in the semi-finals at the SWATCH FIVB World Tour season-opening event in Brasilia, Emanuel and Ricardo avenged the Beijing setback with a 17-21, 21-18 and 15-12 win in 58 minutes.

The legendary Brazilian pairs finished A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam play Thursday by winning matches against teams from the Czech Republic and Canada. Like Marcio Araujo and Fabio, the Czech and Canadian tandems had to win two qualifying matches Wednesday to advance to the 32-team Main Draw.

With the 2003 world and 2004 Olympic champions Emanuel and Ricardo receiving a berth in the Main Draw due to their No. 3 ranking SWATCH FIVB World Tour, the 2005 world and 2008 Olympic silver medal winners Marcio Araujo and Fabio have to pull extra duty at most 2009 events by playing in the Brazilian Country Quota playoffs that they won Tuesday for the third-time in five preliminary appearances.

“It is tough being in the same pool with another Brazilian teams, especially with Emanuel and Ricardo,” said the 30-year old Fabio, who became a father recently. “We have so much history with them. In addition to all those FIVB matches, we have played them a lot on the domestic tour. In addition to the physical effort against them, you have to be very sharp mentally. I think this is the earliest we have ever played them in a tournament.”

Fabio was correct about the early FIVB meeting as the two Brazilian teams have faced each other seven times for a SWATCH FIVB World Tour gold medal and eight times the two pairs have competed against each other in a semi-final match. In past Klagenfurt events, Emanuel and Ricardo won the first two matches in 2006 and 2007 semi-final meetings.

Men’s pool play at the A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam continues Friday morning with the top three finishers in each of the eight pools advancing to the 24-team elimination bracket that starts in the afternoon featuring the No. 2 and 3 placers from the groups playing. The pool winners receive a “bye” to Saturday’s second-round.

With the women’s semi-final and medal matches being played Saturday, the men’s “final four” matches will be staged Sunday when the 13th annual A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam comes to an end. The winning teams share the $43,500 first-place prizes.

The 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Tour features $7.2-million in prize money and continues through the fall with the men’s final event in China and the women’s last stop in Thailand. Following Klagenfurt, four more double gender events will be staged in August at sites in Poland, Norway, Finland and The Netherlands.

Dmitri Barsouk and Igor Kolodinsky, the defending A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam champions, won both of their matches Thursday as the 13th-seeded Russians defeated teams from France and Austria. The first Russian men’s or women’s team to win a SWATCH FIVB World Tour gold medal, Barsouk and Kolodinsky challenge fourth-seeded Adrian Gavira Collado and Pablo Herrera of Spain for the Pool D title.

«Ξήλωσαν» δύο γήπεδα μπιτς βόλεϊ!

Νέο επεισόδιο στο σίριαλ των Ομοσπονδιακών Εγκαταστάσεων Μπιτς Βόλεϊ, στο Ιστιοπλοϊκό Κέντρο Λεμεσού, στον Άγιο Τύχωνα. Αυτή τη φορά, με τη βοήθειά του… σκότους και με «δράστες» νυχτοβάτες. Χωρίς να ενημερωθεί κανένας στην Κυπριακή Ομοσπονδια Πετοσφαίρισης, δύο από τα γήπεδα «ξηλώθηκαν» αφού αφαιρέθηκαν οι στύλοι υποστήριξης, τα φιλέ, ακόμη και οι κορδέλες γραμμοθέτησης των γηπέδων! Φαίνεται ότι η άμμος ήταν δύσκολο να αφαιρεθεί… Μέλη των εθνικών μας ομάδων Μπιτς Βόλεϊ ανδρών και γυναικών που είχαν προγραμματισμένη προπόνηση και παιδιά ηλικίας 11 – 17 χρόνων που συμμετέχουν στο Καμπ Μπιτς Βόλεϊ της Ομοσπονδίας και οι προπονητές τους, που πήγαν το πρωί στο χώρο, διαπίστωσαν το «ξήλωμα» των γηπέδων και ενημερώθηκε σχετικά το διοικητικό Συμβούλιο της ΚΟΠΕ. Ο πρόεδρός της κ. Δαμιανός Χατζηδαμιανού που βρίσκεται στη Σουηδία (για το Ευρωπαϊκό Πρωτάθλημα Εφήβων Άρσης Βαρών) προέβη σε παραστάσεις προς το Κοινοτικό Συμβούλιο Αγίου Τύχωνα και ζήτησε επείγουσα συνάντηση με τον Υπουργό Εσωτερικών κ. Νεοκλή Συλυκιώτη. «Είναι πρωτοφανές αυτό που συμβαίνει! Επικαλούμενοι παρατυπίες, να ξηλώνουν τα γήπεδα, τους χώρους άθλησης της νεολαίας και μελών εθνικών ομάδων, για να ικανοποιήσουν προσωπικά και επιχειρηματικά συμφέροντα!», ήταν το σχόλιο του προέδρου της ΚΟΠΕ που πρόσθεσε: «Το όλο θέμα μάς έχει κουράσει αφάνταστα διότι έχουμε εμπλακεί σε γραφειοκρατικές διαδικασίες. Μας ενοχλεί αφάνταστα η αντιμετώπιση που έχουμε. Από ολόκληρη την περιοχή, ενοχλούν μόνο τα γήπεδα που δημιουργήθηκαν με χρήματα του Δημοσίου και με πολλές θυσίες ανθρώπων που αγαπούν τον αθλητισμό. Πραγματικοί σκουπιδότοποι με τη βοήθεια του ΚΟΑ, της ΚΟΕ και του Υπουργού Εσωτερικών, μετατράπηκαν σε ένα πραγματικό στολίδι το οποίο φιλοξενεί εκατοντάδες αθλούμενους καθημερινά. Εντελώς δωρεάν, όλος ο κόσμος έχει πρόσβαση στο χώρο και χρησιμοποιεί τα γήπεδα για να αθληθεί για καλύτερη ποιότητα ζωής. Ποιους ενοχλούν; Σε σωρεία παρατυπιών στην περιοχή, όλοι σιωπούν και επιλεκτικά γίνεται προσπάθεια να κατεδαφιστούν και να κλείσουν αθλητικοί χώροι. Είναι πασιφανές ότι εξυπηρετούνται συμφέροντα». Το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο της ΚΟΠΕ απέστειλε επιστολή στο Κοινοτικό Συμβούλιο Αγίου Τύχωνα με την οποία ζητείται άμεση συνάντηση στην παρουσία αξιωματούχων του ΚΟΑ και της ΚΟΕ. Το όλο θέμα θα συζητηθεί σε σύσκεψη στην Ομοσπονδία ενόψει και της διοργάνωσης του Διεθνούς Τουρνουά «Cyprus Golden Cup 2009» (7-9 Αυγούστου) σε συνεργασία με την Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία και με τη συμμετοχή ομάδων και αθλητών από αρκετές χώρες της Ευρώπης. Σε σχέση με το όλο θέμα, η πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Μπιτς Βόλεϊ της ΚΟΠΕ κ. Θέτις Κοζάκου, δήλωσε: «Θέλουμε τα παιδιά να ασχοληθούν με τον αθλητισμό και να απομακρυνθούν από τις προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζουν καθημερινά. Ξεκινήσαμε μια προσπάθεια με εξαιρετικά αποτελέσματα, τόσο στο πιο ψηλό επίπεδο που είναι οι εθνικές μας ομάδες, όσο και στη βάση, με τις Ακαδημίες και τα Καμπ που λειτουργήσαμε. Παιδιά, ηλικίας 10-11 χρόνων βλέπουν τα γήπεδα να ξηλώνονται, αλλά δεν έχουμε απαντήσεις να τους δώσουμε. Τι να τους πούμε; Οι αθλητές μας που τίμησαν την Κύπρο με τις επιτυχίες τους, δεν μπορούν να προπονηθούν! Είναι ντροπή…».

Στη Θεσσαλονίκη ο Μπρόκινγκ

Στη Θεσσαλονίκη βρίσκεται από το μεσημέρι της Πέμπτης ο προπονητής του Ηρακλή Χάρι Μπρόκινγκ. Ο Ολλανδός προπονητής ήρθε για μόνιμη εγκατάσταση στη συμπρωτεύουσα αφού για τις 11 Αυγούστου είναι προγραμματισμένη η πρώτη προπόνηση των κυανόλευκων. Τον προπονητή περίμενε στο αεροδρόμιο το μέλος της διοίκησης του Γ.Σ. Ηρακλής Γιώργος Μανωλόπουλος και ο στατιστικολόγος της ομάδας Παναγιώτης Κουντουρίδης. Σε πρώτη φάση ο προπονητής επισκέφτηκε διάφορα σπίτια προκειμένου να επιλέξει το σπίτι που του ταιριάζει και αμέσως μετά αποσύρθηκε στο ξενοδοχείο του για να ξεκουραστεί καθώς συνάντησε ιδιαίτερη ταλαιπωρία κατά την άφιξη. Το βράδυ ο Ολλανδός προπονητής θα έχει συνάντηση με τη διοίκηση ενώ από την Παρασκευή θα έχει διαδοχικές συναντήσεις με συνεργάτες του για να ετοιμάσουν το πλάνο προετοιμασίας της ομάδας για τη νέα αγωνιστική περίοδο.
